Give voice to those who have none 2013
SPECIAL CATEGORY 2013 “GIVE VOICE TO THOSE WHO HAVE NONE” – SHORT FILM COMPETITION
“GIVE VOICE TO disABILITY – BREAKING THE SILENCE OF PREJUDICE”
During the fifth edition of the Sabaoth International Film Festival (S.I.F.F.) which will be held in Milan from
the 13nd to the 16th of March, 2013 there will be a SPECIAL COMPETITION for short films on the theme of
“(dis)ABILITY”.
In the last editions, the S.I.F.F. gave voice and visibility to issue of abuse suffered by women, in particular domestic violence, with a series of round tables, discussions and screenings (2011) and in 2008 to the massacres in Orissa, (India).
This time, the objective is to bring to the forefront the hidden faces and problems related to the world of those who are physically and/or mentally challenged and to either narrate the numerous wonderful stories of integration or denounce the prejudice and violence still suffered by those who are “differently able”. We hope to provoke the same question in all of us: “what if I’m the different one?”
The Special Category films should be maximum 3 minutes long and can either:
The English expression “physically and mentally challenged” really spoke to us.
Everyone, at one time or another, faces challenges that are emotional, physical or mental. Maybe, if we unite our strengths, we can face these challenges TOGETHER and walk the path of bridging the gap between ourselves and “others” that, at times, seems so distant.
We will speak of the violence that disabled people are often subject to, and that is frequently hidden in the silence of those who are unable to speak.
We will also “give voice” to the untirable families and to the extraordinary workers who run the same race together, a race that more than often is uphill and solitary, trying to understand together how we can better sustain the network that already exists and identify where the holes in the net are.
